The Army and Air Force’s not-for-profit canteen service is recalling its team to help Defence during Operation Bushfire Assist. In line with its organisational vision ‘to contribute to the capability of Defence’, the Army & Air Force Canteen Service (AAFCANS) support is being provided to evacuees at RAAF East Sale and Bandiana/Latchford barracks along with further support services provided at RAAF Richmond. “We are delighted to support Defence and offer our fellow Australians a helping hand in their time of need,” AAFCANS head of operations Tim Manic said. “We have received a heart-warming response from our team-members and suppliers which underpin AAFCANS support initiatives”. The AAFCANS team in NSW, country Victoria and south-east Queensland have been rolling out amenities to support their ADF bases. AAFCANS made available immediate donations of personal care products to incoming evacuees and opened its canteen facilities to provide support for both guests and the ADF resources working on base. AAFCANS rallied its supply chain for more than 320 personal care packages for fire victims housed in accommodation facilities on base.
The packs included personal care and retail products while more than $2000 worth of in-store vouchers were available to evacuees to use in their canteens and access much-needed and immediate amenities. AAFCANS total support efforts tally into the thousands. In addition, AAFCANS provided a ‘Sip to’ Support’ promotion at Latchford and Gallipoli barracks, gifting a coffee to all customers on January 10 – asking a gold coin donation in aid of the Bushfire Appeal. AAFCANS managing director Stewart McGrow said the organisation was working with Defence leadership to maximise on-base support. “We are immensely proud of the ADF humanitarian efforts and equally proud to do our part in assisting Defence in every way we can,” Mr McGrow said.
