RAAF Base Amberley

RAAF Amberley was established in 1940 with the formation of 24 SQN. Amberley is the centre of the RAAF’s expeditionary deployment capability, hosting the Headquarters of the Combat Support Group and the Airfield Defence Wing. The base is currently undergoing a major multiphase redevelopment program to make it the RAAF’s first super base.
The 2 Airfields are predominantly used for the resident fixed wing aircrafts: F/A-18F Super Hornets, F-35 Lightning II, KC-30A and C-17 Globemaster’s. RAAF Amberley is one of the only too designated possible landing sites for the Space Shuttle. Amberley is also home to Army units making up the (9FSB) and 17 CSS and the SFS (RAAF Security and Fire School).
As part of AAFCANS corporate plan Amberley was chosen as the test base for the new strategy. The refurbishment of the main canteen facility focused on providing innovation in service, equipment and testing the technology that would support improvements to productivity and efficiencies.
