SMILES were on the menu, along with coffee, food and drinks as AAFCANS lived up to their strategy of ‘where you go, we go’ across Shoalwater Bay during Exercise Talisman Sabre. Along with three well-stocked main kiosks at Theatre Gateway in Rockhampton, Camp Growl and Williamson Airfield, AAFCANS deployed mobile facilities and container amenities into forward positions including Sam Hill, the Field of Dreams FSG, central range and more.

AAFCANS managing director Stewart McGrow said their services deployed and flexed in size in unison with the needs of the soldiers and airmen they support. “Boots on the ground greatly appreciate access to hot coffee, cold drinks, the increased range of warm and welcoming food, personal hygiene and grocery products,” Mr McGrow said. “Army and Air Force helped to direct our ground crew to where the facilities were most needed.” Focused on their 2019 objective –‘always ready to serve’ – AAFCANS centralised efforts on expanding access to amenities and strengthening their deployment capabilities to support the exercise.

Comd 17 Bde Brig Andrew Freeman said AAFCANS was a very important function that provided support directly to the soldiers. “17 Bde is very proud to support AAFCANS’ forward deployable capability by manning and operating a field deployable amenities container,” Brig Freeman said.
